Sungaya Stick Insect

This species is sexually dimorphic, meaning that males and females look different. The females are larger than the males, and tend to have more contrasting colours with areas of dark or light brown and some with white bands on the legs and body, whereas the males tend to be light to medium brown in colour.

Cockroach

The Madagascar hissing cockroach is brown in color, with a much darker head and legs. The body is flat and oval shaped, and they have very large antennae, but no wings. Males can be distinguished from females by the two large “horns” on the carapace by their head, which are used for fighting other males.

White’s Tree Frogs can range in color from bright green, light minty blue to brown. The color varies from individual to individual, but they can also slightly alter their hue depending on activity level, temperature and environment.

Crested Gecko

Crested geckos are among the largest gecko species. Among the most distinctive features of these geckos are the hair-like projections found above the eyes, which greatly resemble eyelashes. Crested geckos also have two rows of small spines that run from the sides of their wedge-shaped head to the base of their tail. The toes have small claws which aid in climbing surfaces to which their toes cannot cling.

Sugar Glider

Sugar gliders are palm-size possums that can glide half the length of a soccer pitch in one trip. Their “wings” are made from a thin skin stretched between the fifth forefinger and back ankle, and they use their bushy tails as rudders as they soar through the air.

Corn snakes, sometimes called red rat snakes, are slender, usually orange or brownish-yellow snakes with a pattern of large, red blotches outlined in black down their backs. Due to their popularity in the pet trade, there are many more colour variations of this species available in captivity.

Saki Monkeys at Flamingo Land

Here at Flamingo Land we have 3 White-faced Saki Monkeys. Now they can be hard to spot as they have their own island opposite the flamingos and spend a lot of time up in the trees. Curu our oldest male is 12, our female is called Hermione aged 4 and our youngest male is called Ron aged 3.

Poppy the Capybara’s First Birthday

This week our very own Poppy the Capybara celebrates her first birthday here at Flamingo Land Resort. Poppy was born here and is enjoying life with all of her friends as well as her boyfriend Winston.

George the Giraffe turns 12

Here at Flamingo Land we are celebrating the birthday of one our most iconic and well known animals at the Zoo. George the Giraffe turns 12 years old on the 20th of October! He is our breeding bull male Giraffe and has fathered 9 calves in his time here so he has been very successful indeed. He is a Rothschild Giraffe which an endangered species with only around 1500 in their native country of Uganda.

Red Panda Day

On September 15th we celebrated International Red Panda day here at Flamingo Land. The star of the day was our Panda cub spending time out of his nestbox and not only learning to walk around on his four legs but also climbing around of some of the trees. He is still being helped by mum Tai Jang but he is becoming more active all the time. He was born on the 17th of June so at three months this is the ideal time for our guests to see him. As our Red Pandas are arboreal they do spend a lot of time snoozing up in the trees and can be hard to spot! They are most active during the gloomy hours of dusk and dawn.

Menya’s First Birthday Party

We have been celebrating Menya our Tiger cub first birthday here at Flamingo Land. On the 25th of August we provided her with her very own ‘tiger cake’ made from frozen beef, chicken, quail, rats and fish – lovely! She thoroughly enjoyed and even our guests all sang happy birthday to her on her special day. She joined by her mum Surya and Dad Bawa to join in with the feast.

Tallulah the Tarantula

Here at Flamingo Land we have creatures that are all shapes and sizes. One of our more scary and hairy residents is our Chilean Rose Tarantula with the lovely name – Tallulah. She is around 15 years old and has been with us for almost her entire life and can live up to 20 years!
