What An Accolade! Two Schools Have Tanzanian Tree Named After Them.

Just a few days ago the winners of a competition to name a newly discovered species of tree in Tanzania were announced, with part of their prize being an invitation to come and spend a day here at Flamingo Land Resort Yorkshire. The tree will now be named Polyceratocarpus askhambryan-iringae after competitive fundraising totalling nearly £4000 saw Askham Bryan College

Hippos Shake Off The Winter Blues!

Construction Underway in Penguin Coast

Our group of Humboldt penguins have begun gathering material from around their enclosure to start nest building in preparation for breeding, Humboldt penguins do not necessarily have a specified breeding season as they will mostly just reproduce when they have enough food available and plenty of resources. Flamingo Land Resort welcomes new Black Rhinos

Flamingo Land are delighted to announce the arrival of two black rhinos from Zurich on September 23rd. Samira (the mother) and baby Olmoti (born last December) will be the first inhabitants of our new Selous Black Rhino Reserve.

Red Panda Cub Born

Flamingo Land is proud to announce that we have a newly born red panda! It was discovered by one of our zoo keepers within one of the nest boxes on 4th June 2015.

Lemur Baby Boom!

We’ve had a lemur baby boom here at Flamingo Land! Five of our ring-tailed lemurs have recently given birth to four healthy babies, plus one set of twins! The new arrivals bring our number of lemurs to 27. At around 2 weeks old, most of the babies can be seen clinging to their mums’ chests, with the larger among them big enough to start riding round on their backs. A couple are even brave enough to hop down to the ground and investigate the fruit and veg being fed to the adults, even though they’re a couple of months off being able to eat it!
