Baby Baboons Steal The Show!
With over 140 species of reptiles, mammals and birds, new arrivals are a familiar attraction at Flamingo Land.
However, our baby Hamadryas baboons have achieved superstar status, drawing masses of interest from visitors of all ages. Born between April and July, the five infants – who are yet to be named – rapidly became an integral part of our existing baboon family.
Originating from Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen, these highly intelligent primates prefer rocky desert and sub-desert regions. They never stray far from watering holes or the cliffs where they sleep.
Hamadryas baboons live in a highly structured society, with groups headed by a single male and comprising up to 10 females, plus their young. These groups come together to form clans, multiple clans form into bands, and an aggregation of bands creates a troop – there really is safety in numbers!
