Love Flamingo Land Resort? Then Love Your Zoo Too!

From 30th May until 5th June, Flamingo Land Resort will be teaming up with zoos throughout the UK to support the British & Irish Association of Zoos & Aquariums (BIAZA) ‘Love Your Zoo’ Week. This national programme of events has been designed to encourage people to visit their local zoo, creating a better understanding of BIAZA’s work and inspiring conservation of our natural world.

During the week, Flamingo Land Resort will be hosting a fantastic programme, highlighting the vital role our zoo plays in both local and international conservation. So, come and join in the fun and discover even more reasons to Love Your Zoo!

To kick off this great event, you’ll have the opportunity to meet our Zoo vet, Matt Brash, between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm on Monday 30th May. Author and TV celebrity, Matt and his team have looked after our collection for many years and will provide visitors with a unique perspective on the animal world!

This will be followed by a range of activities including our Trail Challenge, animal enrichment competition and face painting fun, all available throughout the week. There’ll also be our free daily Keeper Talks, allowing you to discover far more about each of your favourite species. These are available at the following times:

12:00 noon – Giraffes & Hippos
12:30 pm – Baboons & Chimps
1:00 pm – Tigers
1:00 pm – Monitor Lizards
2:00 pm – Lemurs
3:00 pm – Flamingos
3:15 pm – South America
3:30 pm – Penguins

A free animal handling session will be available at 2:30 pm each day too.

If you’d like to know more about the zoo and our team, then come and meet us in the Resort’s Education Centre, located in the picnic area next to Go-Gator. Here you’ll find an amazing retrospective collection of original photographs, documents and texts that’ll take you on a journey through time from Flamingo Land’s early beginnings as The Yorkshire Zoological Gardens in 1959 to today’s spectacular Theme Park & Zoo. You’ll also be able to enjoy our ‘Meet the Keepers’ sessions at 2:00 pm every day, providing direct answers to all your questions about Flamingo Land’s animals, the zoo’s future plans and taking up zoo keeping as a career.

In addition to these free attractions, you can also enjoy an Encounter with our Meerkats, Lemurs, Coatis, Penguins, Sea Lions or Birds of Prey for just £10. However, due to their popularity, pre-booking is essential.
