Mia And Mylo Are Winners!
Mia and Mylo our loveable meerkats who have been appearing in their own show, have won a top award from the British and Irish Zoological Association recognising our commitment to providing an educational day out for all the family.
The award was given because the show used new scientific evidence from work by Ph.D. candidate Sarah Spooner from the University of York, which resulted in more than 14,000 children learning about animals and their conservation.
The show, created by Hayley Richardson, head of Entertainment at Flamingo Land UK, sees meerkats Mia and Mylo, who are brother and sister, capture the imagination of visitors as they are taken on an educational journey about how Flamingo Land helps deliver the message that conservation charities UFP and CIRCLE are working to protect and conserve animals and rainforests in Africa.
Simple messages about conservation are the work we do here are explained by Mia and Mylo who are joined by Francesca the Flamingo and Lalaina the Lemur making it great fun for children of all ages.
“We are delighted to win this award from such a respected charitable organisation and feel that it reflects the work that we do at our animal collection and theme park to be a visitor attraction with conservation at its very heart,” said Sarah Mills Director of Marketing, Flamingo Land Resort Yorkshire.
Director of Conservation at Flamingo Land Resort Yorkshire and Senior Lecturer at the University of York, Dr Andy Marshall concluded;
“The entire Flamingo Land team works very hard to raise, protect and enhance an animal collection that supports conservation projects across the globe. We work incredibly closely with BIAZA to support its breeding and conservation programmes and to have one of our attractions recognised by them is very pleasing.”
