Twenty Eight Wheels, Three Days And A Wild Ride!
We know that our staff have a great team spirit but they decided to put this to the test recently – all in the name of charity by leaving our wild rides behind and taking on one of their own!
They signed up for the Coast-to-Coast cycle ride which saw them dip their wheels in the sea at Whitehaven before tackling the 160 miles, up hill and down dale to Sunderland.
They put aching limbs and sore bottoms behind them and dug deep in their steely reserves of mental and physical strength to complete the challenge and raised an amazing £5,040 – even before gift aid has been accounted for!!
"It seemed like a great idea at the time but in reality was one of the most difficult things any of us had ever done," commented Dave Holberry spokesperson for the group "But, our team spirit, camaraderie and the determination to raise money for our chosen charity provided all the motivation we needed to succeed."
The Flamingo Land team and fellow riders chose to raise funds for the Make-a-Wish foundation for terminally ill children – a nationwide charity that supports children and their families to make their wishes come true.
"For us, it was about giving a little bit back, doing your bit to help others and being part of a team. We would all recommend signing up for a challenge like this and being part of something very special."
The Flamingo Land team consisted of Dave Holberry, Jay Burnley, Sam de Belle, Christine Bulmer, Alex McClements, Matt Gilbert, Mandy Holberry, Juliette Pearson, John Green, Leah Hodsman, Tina Docherty, Stewart Bulmer, Aaron Bulmer, Brett Johnson and of course our fantastic support vehicle drivers Fiona Kerr and Louise Hodsman.
